About Isidro Aybar, Jr
Music has been at the core of Isidro Aybar, Jr. from a very early age. Isidro was the first of three children born to Dominican parents struggling to live against the colorful backdrop of New York City’s Spanish Harlem. His love for music surfaced at the age of eight when he was given his first guitar. Son of a minister/ musician, Isidro grew up playing his guitar in East Coast Spanish churches as well as in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. He attributes his affection for Latin, Caribbean, and jazz styles to his early exposure to these forms of music; however, when asked who his main musical influences have been Isidro cites Quincy Jones, Charlie Parker, Tito Puente and George Benson.
Isidro’s musical education got its formal start during his high school years when he was selected to attend the La Guardia School of Music and Art in New York City. After graduation he moved to Denver, Colorado in 1983 with his father, Isidro Aybar, Sr.
In 1990 he graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver’s College of Music where he majored in guitar, and participated in Master Classes under outstanding artists such as Joe Pass, Wynton Marsalis and Larry Coreyell. His versatile experience at UCD included emphasis in performance, composition, production, arranging, and business management. With this foundational education behind him, Isidro along with good friend Vernon Barbary formed REDEMPTION in 1991, a contemporary jazz band that wowed many of Denver’s jazz lovers.
Deciding to further his education, Isidro returned to school and quickly obtained his Master of Arts in theory and composition from Denver University’s Lamont School of Music. It was in this season of Isidro’s life that he sought out renowned music educator Dale Brunning who was greatly influential in helping Isidro polish his guitar technique. Prompted by his professors and driven by the passion within, Isidro pressed on in 1994 to acquire his Doctorate in Music. During this time, he maintained a busy schedule with music projects, a new family, and a full-time job working as the Music Director/ Fine Arts Pastor at Orchard Road Christian Center (home of Marilyn Hickey Ministries). Isidro graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in the spring of 2002.
With over 20 years of dedicated service to Orchard Road Christian Center, Isidro has been privileged to work with a plethora of the Christian music industry’s greatest performers including CeCe Winans, Martha Munizzi, Cheri Keaggy, Ron Kenoly, Phil Driscol and Gary Oliver. As a producer and musician, Isidro is also highly respected for the impressive variety of contemporary Christian musical arrangements he has written over the years. Throughout his career he has been privileged to to share the stage with artists Warren Hill, Paul Taylor, Brian Simpson, Tim Bowman, Nancy Wilson, Harry Connick Sr., John Patitucci and Leslie Drayton; as well as having performed in the same events with Kirk Whalum and Gerald Albright. Although primarily a lover of jazz, Latin, R&B, pop and rock, Isidro is also adept within the symphonic and world music arenas; he has enjoyed performing on several occasions with long-time friend David Amram (first composer-in-residence with the New York Philharmonic).
Currently, Isidro resides in Denver with his wife Allison and their three sons Isaiah, Benji, and A.J. Now having launched Fervor Music Productions, 'Dr. Dro,' as referred to by his colleagues, is quickly and enthusiastically emerging as one of the nation’s most diverse music producers.
